This collection is a compilation of manuscripts, correspondences, publications, speeches and lectures relating to the career of Dr. Charles V. Hamilton. Dr. Hamilton was a political scientist, professor, civil rights activist and author. Known for publications such as Bench and the Ballot: Southern Federal Judges and Black Voters and Black Power: The Politics of Liberation in America, alongside with Stokely Carmichael, later known as Kwame Toure . Hamilton and Carmichael worked closely trhroughout their career and the collection highlights many of their interactions. Hamilton was known for popularizing the phrase "institutional racism". Hamilton kept the advancement of the African American community  at the forefront of his works.

Dr. Charles V. Hamilton

Dr. Charles V. Hamilton, born on October 19th,1929 as a profound African American scholar, political scientist, educator and Civil Rights leader. He received his education from Roosevelt University (1951) and the University of Chicago (1957,1964). He went on to serve as faculty of many universities including Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey (1963–64), Lincoln University in Pennsylvania (1964–67), and Roosevelt University in Chicago (1967–69). He ultimately settled at Columbia University where he served until his retirement in 1999. Dr. Hamilton died on November 18th, 2023 in his hometown of Chicago, IL.
